Eligibility

In order to register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Indiana, be at least 18 years of age on or before the next General or Municipal Election, and not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime.

  • You must have lived in the precinct where you are registered to vote for at least 30 days prior to Election Day in order to cast a ballot.
  • College students may only register at one of two places: the address where they live while attending school OR the address where they live while not attending school.

Vote-By-Mail Practices

All voters are eligible to vote absentee in-person (also known as early voting), but in order to vote absentee by mail, you must fall into one of the eligible categories listed here. Click here to access Indiana’s absentee voting by mail application.

  • The deadline to request an absentee by-mail ballot is October 24, 2024, 12 days prior to Election Day.
  • Your vote by-mail ballot must be received by your County Clerk before noon on Election Day in order to be counted.

Early Voting

Indiana offers early voting.

  • Early voting begins 28 days prior to Election Day (October 8, 2024) and ends 12pm on November 4, 2024, which is the day before Election Day. Contact your County Clerk’s office to find locations and hours for early voting.

Election Day Practices

On Election Day, the polls are open 6am-6pm.

  • At the polls, you must present a valid form of photo ID. Acceptable forms of photo ID must display your photo and name, display an expiration date that is current or expired sometime after the date of the last General Election, and be issued by the state of Indiana or the U.S. government.
