Your voter registration application must be received 21 days prior to the next election by 9pm.
Eligibility
In order to register to vote in Maryland, you must be a U.S. citizen, a Maryland resident, and at least 16 years old at the time of registration (must be 18 to vote).
- Cannot be convicted of buying or selling votes; under guardianship for mental disability and found by a court to be unable to communicate a desire to vote; or convicted of a felony and currently serving a court-ordered sentence of imprisonment. - If you are an overseas citizen, military personnel, or dependent of military personnel, you may register to vote in Maryland if your current or previous U.S. residence was in Maryland.
- College students may choose to register to vote at either their home address OR at their college address. Click here for more information.
Deadline
The deadline to register to vote in Maryland for the General Election is October 18, 2022 at 9PM via online and 5PM via other registration type.

Vote-By-Mail Practices
Any registered Maryland voter may apply for an absentee ballot and vote by mail. Click here to access the Maryland Application for an Absentee Ballot.
- If you want your mail- in ballot to be delivered to you via the internet, your request must be received by 5pm, Friday, November 4, 2022 for a request sent in the mail, or by 11:59 pm, Friday, November 4, 2022. If you want to receive your ballot by mail or fax, your request must be received (not just mailed) by Tuesday, November 1, 2022. If you want to make an in-person request, those can still be made on Election Day.
- Mail-in ballots must be return to your county board of elections on or before 8pm on Election Day.
- Absentee ballots may be mailed and postmarked on or before 8pm on Election Day.

Early Voting
Maryland offers early voting.
- Early voting will be available from Thursday, October 27, 2022 through Thursday, November 3, 2022 (including Saturday and Sunday) from 7am to 8pm. More information about early voting in Maryland can be found here.
Election Day Practices
On Election Day, the polls are open 7am-8pm.
