Eligibility

In order to register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen or National, a resident of the Northern Mariana Islands, be 18 by or on the next Election Day, not be serving a sentence for a felony, not have been declared by a court to be of unsound mind, and not be confined to a mental institution.

  • College students have a choice of whether they want to vote in the Northern Mariana Islands or vote in their home state. You may only be registered and vote at one location.

The deadline to register to vote in Northern Mariana Islands for the General Election is September 6, 2024.

There are two methods of registering to vote in Northern Mariana Islands: mail in a printable application or a requested application or in-person at the Commonwealth Election Commission Office or with Election Commissioner.

Election Day Practices

On Election Day, the polls are open 7am-7pm.

  • Each voter shall be required to show photo ID at the polls in order to receive a ballot; if the voter does not have or refuses to produce photo ID, the voter shall fill out an affidavit.
