Your voter registration application must be received on or by October 4, 2020 if you are registering online, by fax, or by email in order to be eligible to vote in the 2020 General Election. The deadline for in-person registration is October 2, 2020 at 5pm. If you plan to register to vote by mail, your application must be postmarked by or on October 5, 2020.

Eligibility

In order to register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of South Carolina in the county and precinct in which you are registering, at least 18 years old on or before Election Day, not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent, not be confined in any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime, and never have been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws.

  • If you are a college student, you can choose whether you register at your college address or the address you intend to return to while not in the college community such as your family home. Deadline

If you plan to register online, by fax, or by email, the deadline to register to vote in South Carolina for the General Election (November 3, 2020) is October 4, 2020. If you plan to register to vote in-person, the deadline is October 2, 2020 at 5pm. If you plan to register to vote by mail, your application must be postmarked by or on October 5, 2020.

Vote-By-Mail Practices

  • The deadline to request an absentee by-mail ballot is October 30, 2020 at 5pm.
  • Your completed absentee ballot must be received by the county voter registration office before 7pm on Election Day in order to be counted.

Early Voting

South Carolina does not offer early voting, although you may vote absentee in-person at your county voter registration office.

  • You may vote absentee in-person up until 5pm on the day before the election (November 2, 2020).
