Utah offers same-day voter registration, meaning that voters are able to register to vote in person at their polling place on Election Day on November 3, 2026. Voters can register to vote online or by mail by October 23, 2026.
Eligibility
In order to register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years old on or before Election Day, a resident of Utah for 30 days, and not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction
- 16 and 17-year-olds may preregister to vote but they must be 18 to vote.
- College students may choose to register to vote at either their home address or at their college address, but they may only be registered and vote at one location.
- Utah residents can not vote if they are currently serving a jail or prison sentence for a felony conviction, but their voter rights are automatically restored when they are released.

Deadline
The deadline to register to vote in Utah for the 2026 midterm election is October 23, 2026, which is 11 days before the election. If voters are registering to vote by mail, their registration form must be received by this date. Utah offers same-day voter registration at voters’ polling locations on Election Day on November 3, 2026.

There are three methods of registering to vote in Utah: online registration, mailing in a completed printable application, or in-person registration.

Vote-By-Mail Practices
Any registered voter in Utah may request an absentee ballot and is not required to provide a reason. Click here to access Utah’s Absentee Ballot Application.
- Active registered voters in Utah will automatically receive a ballot in the mail. To change the address at which you receive your ballot, contact your county clerk’s office at least one month before the election.

Early Voting
Utah offers early voting.
- Early voting, also known as in-person absentee voting, will be available starting 2 weeks before the election (November 13, 2022) and will end the Friday before election day (November 24, 2023). Polls will be open for at least 4 hours each day.
